SUMMARY:Ghost in the Machine : Discourses with AI
DESCRIPTION:Purav Bhardwaj (University of California Santa Barbara; Nation
 al Institute of Design, India) and Misha Sra (University of California San
 ta Barbara)\n\nAI systems analyze vast amounts of data, uncover patterns, 
 and make decisions- emulating a semblance of intelligence despite lacking 
 qualia and embodiment that form the basis of the human condition. In this 
 paper, we expound on "Ghost in the Machine", an interactive installation t
 hat delves into the pervasive tendency to anthropomorphize AI, ascribing h
 uman-like qualities, intentions, and even consciousness. Participants enga
 ge in dialogue with the AI as it collaboratively materializes the AI's tho
 ughts in moving image and generative sound. The installation attempts to f
 orge embodiment for an amorphous AI, revealing errors in its comprehension
